Chihiro currently lives and works in Tkarón:to, “the place where the trees are standing in the water.” (Kanienʼkéha). This land, colonially known as Toronto, is governed by Treaty 13, and as a settler on this land makes her and all other inhabitants treaty people responsible for its ongoing health. Chihiro acknowledges the past, present, and future caretakers and stewards of this land that have gone both recorded and unrecorded since time immemorial. It is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and is also home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
